FAQs

How do I book an appointment?

You can book online or call/message me on 07723193945.

Please note: you will require a 20-30 minute consultation before your first appointment, so that I can make a treatment plan that best suits your needs. This can take place either online (via Zoom) or in-person just before your first appointment.

When you book online, you will receive a call from me to arrange this with you.

Where is In Tune Massage Therapy based and how do I get there?

You can find me by appointment only at my home address on:

Milward Road
Hastings
TN34 3RP

My full address will be given once you book in.

Car: There is usually plenty of free street parking on Milward Road for up to 2hrs and some completely free on nearby streets.

Bus: There are plenty of nearby bus stops, including one a short walk away at Morrisons.

Rail: Hastings train station is a 10-15 minutes away on foot.

What happens at my first appointment?

You will need to have a consultation so I can listen to your needs, assess any issues and look at any restrictions in your mobility.

When you come to see me, you get a hands-on treatment for the full 60 or 90 minutes you booked in for.

If you decide to have your consultation on the day of your appointment, you will need to arrive 30 minutes early to account for this so that it won’t end up eating into your precious treatment time!

How much do you charge?

My current prices as of December 2022 are detailed on my booking page.

What types of massage do you do?

My treatments are fully tailored to your needs using a fusion of holistic, sports and clinical massage with a compassionate approach.

I specialise in holding space for people with long term chronic pain which isn’t always straight forward but I can also provide a fully luxurious and relaxing treatment too. No two bodies are the same so neither are my treatments!

If I had to describe my style I would say it’s deep, slow, specific and intuitive.

What are your qualifications?

I started out with a level 3 qualification in holistic and deep tissue massage which is what most massage and spa therapists have.

But…I knew I wanted to have the in depth knowledge and confidence needed to treat people with all kinds of chronic problems, so I graduated with an ACMT (advanced clinical and sports massage therapy) qualification after a long, hard but incredibly rewarding year of study with the renowned Jing Advanced Massage Institute in Brighton. This forms the first part of the highest qualification for massage and bodywork currently available in the UK.

My studies revolutionised my treatments and have continued to help people out of chronic pain, alongside various other short trainings where the learning never stops – such as Myofascial Dry Cupping, and Hot Stones…

It’s true – I’m a total massage geek!

Do you do discounts?

I am constantly adding value wherever I can to give my clients the best experience. I do sometimes have offers but most of those are exclusive to my email club only.

You can save money when you buy a package of treatments too.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Whatever you feel most comfy in! Most treatments work better if all clothes are removed (you can keep on the bottom half of your underwear). Any part not receiving treatment will be securely draped and covered at all times and I will give you privacy to undress and get on to the couch.

That being said, I am more than happy to accommodate to your comfort level and we can discuss this during your consultation. There is no such thing as an embarrassing question so please let me know if there are any issues you want to discuss.

Please note: I have a strict draping policy and don’t tolerate requests to remove them. I am a highly qualified professional therapist with full insurance and full membership to a professional governing body. I ask all clients to respect my profession and any inappropriate requests or behaviour will result in immediate termination of the session.

I have a stoma, prosthetic, hearing aid, walking aid, etc...

I am a judgement free, body positive therapist and I welcome all bodies to my treatment space. All I ask is that you let me know as soon as possible if there is anything I need to know to bring you the most comfort possible.

I will provide a bag or box you can pop any personal belongings in to keep them safe and secure during your treatment.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the building I work in, you will need to be able to walk down a set of stairs to the front entrance.

I aim to eventually provide mobile treatments for those of you with limited mobility – stay posted!

What products, oils and creams do you use and do you use essential oils?

My favourites to use are Songbird vegan massage wax which are available in some gorgeous, natural pre blended essential oil flavours, or unscented. I also use pure organic cold pressed coconut oil for anyone who would prefer an oil to a wax. I find the waxes have a better grip for deeper work and don’t leave a sticky residue like oil can. I’m happy to provide a full list of ingredients.

I am not trained in aromatherapy, therefore am unable to create my own blends and use them on clients.

Will my pain go away with one treatment?

Pain is strange and complex. It’s created by conscious and unconscious habits, tension holding patterns, the movements you do (or don’t do), and your past and present injuries and traumas.

What’s just as important but often overlooked is that pain is highly influenced by stress, emotions and even your mindset.

If you come in with chronic hip pain that you’ve had for three months, or maybe even years, it’s unlikely it will be completely pain-free after only one session.

In this instance, you’ll most likely see significant results after a series of sessions (usually 3-6). It could take a few weeks or even a few months. A lot depends on how frequently you come for a massage, your self-care/rehab routine, and your day to day movements.

What ever your issues are, I can make a pain relief treatment plan just for you. Most long term chronic pain clients I’ve had have seen the best results from coming to see me twice a week for 3 weeks, and then onto a fortnightly, then monthly maintenance massage program (with some short, supportive self care and wellbeing sessions in between).

Will my massage treatment hurt?

Contrary to popular belief, massage doesn’t have to hurt in order to work.

I will always check in with you with regards to what pressure you prefer as every body is different.

I’m a highly trained, compassionate therapist and if you feel uncomfortable during or after your treatment I encourage you to to let me know so I can adjust your treatment accordingly. This is your precious time taken out for you to feel safe and nurtured.

Can I talk during my treatment?

Absolutely! The time is yours and I’m always happy to chat. However, I’ll always let you lead and I’m equally happy to be silent to let you experience and have time to process all the amazing benefits of your massage.

If needed, you can pop the words ‘silent massage’ in the notes when you book online. I will only talk if I need to move you or let you know something super important during your treatment.

What should I do after my massage?

Without giving you a scientifically dubious long spiel about ‘flushing toxins away’, I do always offer water or herbal tea before and after your massage.

‘Waking up’ from the deep relaxation of a massage can be slightly disorientating. It can also lower blood pressure and sometimes cause a slight dip in blood sugar levels. I recommend slowly getting up and dressed, drinking plenty of fluids (try to avoid caffeine and alcohol) and eating some healthy, nourishing food.

Occasionally, great massage and bodywork can bring long held down emotions to the surface, clearing tension to pave the way for the body and mind to do it’s own healing thing. A great way to deal with this is to understand it’s completely normal, acknowledge it and give yourself time and space alone to process it. Journaling or taking a mindful walk can help immensely 🙂

I hate pan pipes, whale noises and 'spa music' - Can we listen to something else/nothing?

Hah! don’t worry, I got you! I happen to be a music geek as well as a massage geek. In Tune Massage Therapy was created to give you the ultimate judgement free, healing experience. I believe music can be so integral to this. Whatever your preference is, I’m sure I’ve got a curated playlist to suit you. Just let me know what you like/don’t like. If I haven’t got it, I’m willing to give it a damn good go!

Is it difficult for you to treat larger people?

Absolutely not! I welcome all bodies to my treatment space and can provide extra support for clients that need more comfort.

I have lots of body hair/forgot to shave - is that ok?

All bodies are welcome
